Where we started:
The Linux Warehouse started off as a small division within Obsidian Systems selling Linux CD's directly to the public. Later it became the retail division of Obsidian and sold an array of hardware and software products.
One of those products was Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Obsidian had obtained the Red Hat distributorship for South Africa and Red Hat had made the decision to move from a mainly direct-to-customer model to a channel model allowing resellers like Obsidian the chance to resell their products.
Initially what Red Hat sales there were came almost entirely from end customers of Obsidian with little interest from other resellers. But as the local market started to grow there was an increase in demand from company's wanting to purchase Red Hat products for their clients.
By 2005 the local Linux market was showing astounding growth and the ratio between end customer and reseller sales had shifted dramatically. In January of 2005 the decision was made for The Linux Warehouse to begin focusing on building the local Red Hat channel.
In June of 2005 The Linux Warehouse (Pty) Ltd was formed as a separate entity and the division was split off from Obsidian. The goal to focus solely on sales to resellers and to build and develop the Red Hat channel.
